![]() ![]() Soap Skin and Bubble is an extension that allows you to select a frame, create a face along it, then inflate it to create different faces – this is an excellent extension for the creation of shapes like tensile structures, etc.Īs we move forward, UV Mapping and the placement of materials is becoming more and more important. When you move the points on the bounding box, FFD will use those points to deform your shape. Note that shapes for slicer have to be solids, so you may want to use a tool like Solid Inspector to help you create the solid geometry.įFD is an extension that allows you to create a “Bounding Box” around a group of geometry, which can then be used to manipulate the geometry within the box. Slicer allows you to take solid shapes and break them up into different slices, allowing you to make very interesting geometry, but also allows you to export these different slices to a CNC routing machine, helping you create real models from these shapes in real life. This allows for the creation of more complex shapes and objects by using a complex target shape. One of the most powerful extension for SketchUp is flowify, which allows you to bend geometry based on a target shape with 4 corners. However, this extension, created by Fredo6, allows you to actually animate moving geometry. One of the areas where a base SketchUp installation lacks a bit is in the animation functions. This year, I’m still featuring FredoScale, specifically for its radial bend tool, but with a catch – I’m also recommending a new extension from Thom Thom that allows you to bend objects along a 360 degree radius, while FredoScale only bends objects along 180 degrees. Last year, I featured FredoScale for its ability to bend objects within SketchUp. While the full version has some unlockable features, like moveable pins, and different kinds of smoothing, the free version of clothworks does still allow you to simulate cloth and very realistic ways! This is a great extension for adding thickness to complex objects as well.Ĭlothworks is a realistic cloth simulation tool. When you use it properly, you can make truly amazing shapes within SketchUp.Įver get the message in SketchUp that you can’t push-pull a curved surface? This extension allows you to push pull multiple surfaces at once, push pull round surfaces, and more. This extension is great for creating Skins along frames and other complex sets of lines. MY CURRENT FAVORITE SKETCHUP PLUGINS AND EXTENSIONSĭisclaimers: all opinions are my own, sponsors are acknowledged. All tutorials should contain a link to download the extensions noted. ![]() Those are the steps and sequence you’d use to build the project, so that’s the way you should model it.In this video, we go over my top 10 FREE extensions for SketchUp in 2018! Links to tutorials are in the notes below. Finish by adding knobs, pulls, and other hardware. After that, position whatever drawers, doors, and adjustable shelves you want. Fill in the fixed shelves, the bottom, the back panel, and ledger strips. Copy the side and do a Flip Along command to mirror it (this orients the copy correctly, without creating redundant geometry). ![]() Draw one side to size and add rabbets and dadoes for the bottom, back, fixed shelves, and toe-kick space. They’re the main structural element, holding the other parts in place. The best way to do that is to begin with the cabinet sides. ![]() Suppose, for example, that you’re designing kitchen cabinets. It’s the same in SketchUp, so work in SketchUp the way you would in the shop: define the steps and sequence you need before you begin modeling. In woodworking, there’s a sound, logical sequence of steps you need to take from start to finish. ![]()
